Densification characteristics of chromia/alumina castables by particle size distribution

چکیده
The quality of the refractories applied on integrated gasification combined cycle should be a key factor that affects both the reliability and the economics of gasifier operation. To enhance the workability of chromia/alumina castables, three types of ultrafine alumina powder were added to improve the workability. Densification behavior of such castables in the presence of ultrafine alumina was assessed through the measurement of parameters like flow value, viscosity, bulk density, apparent porosity, and microstructure evaluation by an SEM study. It's proved that the specific surface area and particle size distribution of ultrafine powders in matrix parts greatly influence the densification behavior of these castables.

INFLUENCE OF NANO SILICA ON PROPERTIES AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF HIGH ALUMINA ULTRA-LOW CEMENT REFRACTORY CASTABLES
Colloidal silica bonded refractory castables have been developed recently. It was found that colloidal silica is one of the best binders can substitute other binders such as cement in No Cement Castable (NCC) and Ultra Low Cement Castable (ULCC) refractories. Also composition of colloidal silica with appropriate additives resulted in a gel form which makes the initial strength. Moreover, the na...
متن کاملStudy by X-Ray microtomography of the horizontal vibration effects on sand densification
X ray microtomography experiments were performed in order to evaluate the densification of silica sand submitted to horizontal sinusoidal vibrations carried out at constant frequency (50 Hz) with controlled acceleration and deceleration Γ. Packing homogeneity was characterized using relative density distribution through 3D images of the relaxed samples. Information obtained from the images allo...
متن کاملModeling of Densification of Biomass Grinds using Discrete Element Method by PFC
Biomass feedstocks are densified to facilitate easy handling, transportation and storage. Densification is a process of transforming loose biomass into highly densified form by the application of mechanical pressure. The mechanism involved in the process of densification is difficult to understand from existing information. A comprehensive understanding of the densification process for biomass ...

The process of mullitization of kyanite concentrate was studied at different conditions of heat treatment (1400– 1600 °C and 0.5 – 3.5 hours) and particle size of raw materials (38-300 ?m). Kyanite concentrate was obtained fromore-dressing of kyanite deposits of Mishidowan-Bafgh region at 100 km northeastern part of Yazd. The results ofmicrostructure (shape, distribution and size of the grains)...
متن کاملComparison of Creep Behavior in Alumina Based Ceramics Densified by Spark Plasma Sintering and Hot Pressing
Spark plasma sintering (SPS) method, as plasma activated sintering, is a method applicable for rapid sintering of metals and ceramics. Owing to the advantage of rapid heating, the alumina ceramics obtained by SPS have a grain size and density comparable to those of hot pressed ones. The increase of densification rate may be related to some difference in ion transport characteristics. This study...
